synesthetic calculus, 2012
ink on transparent films, 85mm lens

An attempt to illustrate the personification of numbers and their associations with a specific gender, colour, taste, smell, sound or shape. Viewers control a projection of 100 videos through the use of a calculator; every operation produces a new sequence built up from a range of corresponding videos. It is up to the viewer to associate numbers and tell his own mnemotechnical story that impresses as a new way for memorizing large numbers.

By altering a 85mm lens with typographic counter-shapes, animations are generated by randomly moving light sources. Filmed in different environments, a distorted reality is being created and suggests the perception of altered sensory organs.
